Naga City, Albay top Bicol LGUs in competitiveness ranking
Sorsogon City-Naga City and Legazpi City were adjudged as first and third most competitive cities nationwide based on the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) 2024 Rankings released recently by the Department of Industry (DTI).
Based on the latest published data, Naga City ranked first in Infrastructure, second in Economic Dynamism, an improvement from its 5th place in 2023,and Resiliency and third in Government Efficiency and Innovation while Legazpi City, which ranked second in 2023, was down on all five pillars in 2024 compared to its rankings the year prior.
Masbate City ranked at the bottom among Bicol cities at 105th while Ligao City was at 36th place, Iriga City at 41st, Sorsogon City at 52nd followed immediately by Tabaco City at 53rd place.
For Bicol provinces, only Albay made it to the Top 10 at 9th place, an improvement from its 2023 ranking at 11th place. Camarines Sur followed closely at 12th place, also a huge improvement from its 20th place in 2023.
Other Bicol provinces posted an improved ranking with Camarines Norte at 32nd place from 58th in 2023, Sorsogon at 45th place from 60th a year before, Catanduanes at 74th place from 76th while Masbate province did not move from its 78th place.
Among First Class Municipalities in the region, Daet, Camarines Norte topped other Bicol towns at 18th place followed by Daraga and Camalig, albay at 114th and 116th places, respectively. Polangui, Albay and Labo, Camarines Norte at 173rd and 175th place respectively rounded up the top 5 for Bicol Region.
Meanwhile, for Third and Fourth towns, Minalabac and San Fernando, both Camarines Sur, were the top in Bicol at 73rd and 76th places, respectively. Paracale, Camarines Norte is at 113th, Canaman, Camarines Sur at 120th and Lupi, also in Camarines Sur at 136th for the top 5.
The CMCI is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development.
The competitiveness of particular local government unit is measured based on its performance on the five pillars composed of economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resiliency, and innovation. Bicol Files
